"I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself." ~Philippians 3:10

Human Rights Commission arrives tomorrow

I am very interested to see what happens tomorrow with a human rights commission coming to evaluate/investigate the situation here in Honduras. A group of observers from ComisiĆ³n Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) will be here for the next five days. The "popular resistance" have been very vocal in their charges of repression and human rights violations by the police and military since the brginning of the crisis. They attribute 9 deaths, the disappearance of a number of protesters, multiple illegal detentions, intimidation of media members, multiple cases of threats and intimidation to resistance leaders and ordinary citizens, and the repression of basic civil liberties. The sympathizers of Zelaya have called for demonstrations over the next week to be more "contundentes" (forceful) as they feel the presence of the CIDH team will allow them more freedom to pubically express themselves without the fear of being "attacked" by the authorities. It will certainly be interesting to see if the response to demonstrations is different than it has been.
