It is great to be back in Honduras. It really does feel like home. It has been an absolute joy to reconnect with our friends here. It's amazing how much Spanish can be forgotten in 4 months! I guess speaking a language is no different than any other discipline. Stop doing it for a time and you lose what you had attained.
We spent yesterday at the hospital with a young boy named Jonathon. He was a favorite in the community of San Miguel (especially for my daughter, Ryan) and I was actually named as the Godfather (Petrino) to his little brother, Marcos Jose, who was born in July. Anyway, in September, Jonathon fell from a tree along the river's edge and fractured both arms and a hip and he also cracked his head open. He was in the hospital (Hospital Esquela) for 3 months. They inserted 2 rods in the hip and one in each arm. The recovery process has not gone well and when we arrived we decided to bring him to see an orthopedic specialist. It just so happened that last week, Joe Merrilot (a missionary who lives here and works with TORCH and IRC) had met one during breakfast with the new mayor of Teguc. We brought Jonathon to see him and he said that all the rods needed to come out and should have never been inserted in the first place. Well, yesterday, they were removed and Jonathon should be as good as new in just a few months. The doctor waived all of his fees as did the antithesiologist. We have come to learn that he spends a lot of time doing free clinics among the poor villages. He was truly a Godsend and I am grateful and blessed for having met him. Praise God for his willingness to help amongst the poor here.
Thanks for all your help and support!! God is truly amazing and I am truly humbled by His willingness to allow Lori and I to work in Honduras.
