I just spent the last 5 days up in beautiful Jackson Village, NH. It really is one of my favorite places. The Mt. Washington Valley is where I met Lori and where my children were born so it holds a pretty special place in my heart. I was there to do the wedding of my niece Crystal. She married a young man she has been around for 7 years. It was time. They waited until Crys finished grad school. She is now a licensed physical therapist. It was great to see some old (really...old, HAHA) friends that I had not seen in a very long time. Most find it hard to believe that I am a "minister." They knew me when God and I weren't exactly on the same page. Funny thing is that as I look back on all of that, I see how God has been involved the whole time. It was just that I had better ideas than He did so why pay attention? Any body else ever do the same?
I leave tomorrow for Mandeville, LA. It is on the north side of Lake Pontchatrain just across the causeway from New Orleans. The Tammany Oaks Church of Christ has been established as a Red Cross base of operations and I will be going to see if I can help. My TORCH buddies are directing the efforts there and I am looking forward to pitching in. I'll stay through Saturday and then return again later on.
It looks like we will be bringing in some evacuees to stay here at DF for as long as necessary. We are getting set up to bring in 4-5 families. We understand that people are still arriving daily here in Birmingham so maybe we can help a few of them.
I'll try to keep you aprised of the work there in Mandeville and here as things happen. Later.
