I don't know about the rest of you, but I am so tired of the way that the difficulties of the situation on the gulf coast are being portrayed. Tell me if I am right or not...there are some things you just can't be prepared for. I would say that the scope of the difficulties that have transpired in New Orleans cannot be prepared for. How do you anticipate that people would be shooting at helicopters and people and making it impossible to get people out of the hospitals and rescued and evacuated? How do you anticipate and prepare for people dumping over and commandeering rescue boats? How do you anticipate that the criminal element (which, by the way, has always been there killing and raping and stealing, etc.) would take advantage of those who are suffering and the lack of authority in the city? How can you anticipate all that has happened? You can't! I believe that those who are making decisions are making the best decisions they can based on the info they have available at any given time. You can't always anticipate or predict the way things are going to happen. You can guess at how things may go and what you need to do to be prepared, but there is no way anyone would have guessed at some of what has occured in the New Orleans area. Lets not be so quick to judge and attempt to fix blame. Look for ways to be part of solutions and find ways we can help. All of this is nobody's fault...it is what it is. A hurricane that hit the most vulnerable spot in America to hurricanes. Pray for those directly effected.

You disgust me. "It is what it is." Wow. And I bet God is punishing the people right?
Donnie, let me clarify. Sorry if I disgust you and I'm not sure how you get a "God is punishing the people" tone from my thoughts. All I'm saying is that things happen and rather than try to blame people (or God for that matter) for the difficulties that have occurred, all of us would be better served to just do whatever we can to help in the midst of this tragedy.
You know, I had found myself upset at the TV at first until JC said "well honey I guess now people here have an idea what a lot of other countries deal with on a daily basis." It's true. I think one reporter nailed in on the head when he said that noone here in America believed that something like this could happen here on our soil. It is something that we expect in other countries.
Mark, Good to see you writing again. Don't know where Donnie was coming from. You're right. Reminds me of the people blaming the NY police and fire for not being prepared and coordinated on 9-11. 20-20 hindsight.
Referring to an earlier post, I think this tells us not just something about the need to survive, but also about human falleness. Those of us who are sometimes afraid of the word "depravity" are forced to acknowledge its reality. This is where the Good News of a Redeemer really comes down to earth, to not just get us to heaven but to regenerate us now. You and I have also seen heroic acts of unselfishness by people whose survival is on the line. Human depravity "is what it is," but there is hope.
