Latest Developments....
It was a relatively quiet day in regards to the political mess here in Honduras. Here in Tegucigalpa we didn't have any strikes that created problems. There is a lot of stuff being printed in the papers in Nicaragua. It appears they have some real problems with their own government and the presence of Honduras' deposed president "Mel" Zelaya has really brought those opposing factions to a head. Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortega, has got a battle on his hands because he has allowed Zelaya to remain in the country. There are also up to 1200-1300 (can't vouch for the accuracy of these figures) Hondurans there also that are being "trained as a militia." Supposedly, this will make up the army that will retake the presidency. One of the articles from El Nuevo Diario a Nicaraguan paper, said that most of those who have gone there to support the deposed president are gang members. No way to know for sure. Ortega's opposition are afraid that all these Hondurans will just stay in Nicaragua.
A couple days ago there was a report that the protesters were hassling a van full of children from one of the local private schools, Vida Abundante. Here's a picture of the van. No one was hurt, thank God. Supposedly, they rocked it back and forth with the children in it before they spray-painted it. "Golpista" is the derogatory term for those who threw Zelaya out.
We are certainly hoping for another quiet day tomorrow.
