"I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself." ~Philippians 3:10

Sorry for so few posts.... it was that crazy summertime thing and then a little political crisis thing. NUTS!!

Here is the text from our latest newsletter......

We are excited to let you all know that Lori and I have returned to Honduras. I don’t mind telling you that the past four weeks have been some of the most anxious weeks I have ever experienced. I now know what it feels like to be displaced. When we left a little over three weeks ago, we had no idea when, or if, we would be able to return. The threat of a violent conflict was real and we knew we needed to head home, but the thought of being unable to return was one that didn’t settle very well at all. You see, Honduras has truly become our home. It is no longer just a place we come to do mission work, it is not just a place we come to to see old friends, it is not just a place where we work, it is home. It is where we believe we have been called to be. We thank you for your prayers and thoughts and ask that they continue. Things here are still unsettled. You can see it and feel it everywhere you go. Until an agreement is reached, it will remain that way.

The one thing that has not changed here is the plight of the poor.... and as such, the reason for our presence. The work of Mi Esperanza continues to be needed. Homes for those who have little or none are still needed. School supplies and uniforms for families who can’t afford their own are still needed. Food for the hungry is still needed. Perhaps now more than before. I can’t help but think of all of those who need help that did not receive it because thousands of people who had planned to be here had to cancel their trips. TORCH alone had to cancel the final 6 groups of the summer. I am aware of many other mission organizations who had to do the same. I can’t help but think of all the families who continue to live in less than adequate conditions, the thousands of people did not receive medical attention through free clinics, the hundreds of families that are struggling to feed their children who will not receive the relief that could have been provided. Those moments of relief that are brought through the various mission organizations each summer provide moments of hope to those who are so often left hopeless. They are reminders that there is a God who cares and has not left them in their moments of desperation. For so many, those moments of hope, those moments of knowing that God is there did not happen. That is why we had to come back, it is why we will stay if at all possible. I have no idea how the political situation here will be resolved, but at the end of it, the poor will still be just as poor and the mission for Lori and I will be the same... to provide relief in any way we can.

With all that in mind, we need your help. Please join us in our work. Visit our website to find out how.....www.thehondurasproject.org. Contact us if you have any questions.

"What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.” James 2:14-18
