At its core, Christian life is a profound cooperation with the plans and purposes of God. That puts a rather different spin on the matter of our work life and on Sabbath time, since Sabbath seems so clearly to be part of God’s purpose for God’s people. By keeping Sabbath we affirm the value of work, but we also stop worshipping the idols of technical civilization…. Our inability to find time for Sabbath rest is, at worst, a form of idolatry and, at best, putting our own agendas before God’s.
