"I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself." ~Philippians 3:10

great day here in tegucigalpa. picked up jonathan to bring him to his soccer game. On the way there I noticed that my landcruiser was running hot. it was also running hot thursday. i have had some trouble keeping water in it all summer, but had not really had time to get it looked at. the radiator was almost empty thursday so i stopped and filled it up. typically, it would be fine for more than a week, but it was empty again this morning. i dropped jonathan off near his soccer field and headed to the mechanic's fausto. i dropped it off and asked him to take a look at it. it is also due for an oil change, so i asked him to just keep it and check everything out. he gave me a ride to get tim hines' truck. i am going to drive it until mine is ready monday or tuesday. when i got to our warehouse to pick up tim's truck, it had a dead battery. i looked for a reason why and saw that the lights had been left on. at he warehouse there is a guy who works on cars and he, thankfully, was there. he had a spare battery there so we hooked it up and started the truck. we then put tim's battery back in and off i went.

i got to jonathan's game about midway through the first half with the score still 0-0. i got out of the truck and too a seat along the sidelines. now remember, it was still before noon, but right next to me were 5 guys already pretty pie-eyed. i had a bag of momones (a small green sour fruit) with me and they saw it and asked if they could have some. i said yes and they helped themselves to probably half. they then asked me if i was interested in any marijuana. i politely declined and continued watching the game, eating my momones, and finishing my morning coffee. one of the gentleman then asked me what i was drinking and if i wanted to spike it with booze they were drinking. again, i politely declined and went back to watching the game. i was grateful that these guys were friendly drunks and they didn't really bother me at all. they sure loved bothering the players on the field though. it was fun sitting near them and they were harmless. they said they had seen me in there before and wondered why i kept coming back. i told them that one of the players was like a son to me and i came to see him play. one of the guys, ramon, started to ask about what i did for work and i told him about torch and what we did. he asked if we could build his mom a house. i told him i would come back and see him another day. jonathan's team didn't do too well. they lost 5-1.

we then headed to monoloa so i could help cesar put together a crib he had gotten from our warehouse for his baby, jefferson. unfortunately, he couldn't find the screws that came with the bed. fortunately, i had a pretty good assortment in my little tool bag that i had brought with me. it didn't take us long to put it together and after we had to go buy a mattress for it. there is a place pretty close that i had gotten mattresses before, so we walked down to the truck and headed out. as luck would have it, the store close by was closed so we decided to head to the mall and a store named lady lee. i wasn't sure they had crib mattresses, but fortunately, they did, and pretty cheap, just $15. we headed back to monoloa and got cesar home. as you are reading this, it may seem like all this happened rather quickly. well, here in teguc, nothing happens quickly. the walks up and down to cesar's, the drive to the mall in some awful traffic. it was now close to three o'clock and neither jonathan nor i had eaten anything except the momones we had.

i went down to julio's store and got us each a coke and sat down to visit with the people hanging around the store. it's like the neighborhood hangout, right next to a small soccer field. i love visiting there. we hung out for about thirty minutes catching up on what's been happening in the community. they said that things there have been very peaceful and you wouldn't even know there is a political crisis going on. the only real hardship is that close to 70% (really) of those that live there are out of work.

after visiting, i called lori and decided to meet for an early dinner. melvin had been visiting with her at the house all day, so here and melvin met jonathan and i at pizza hut. after our meal, we sent the boys off to catch a bus home and i headed to the store for dog food. like i said... it was agreat day in tegucigalpa. today there was no sign of the crisis that has engulfed the country.
