"I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself." ~Philippians 3:10

Read this today from Dietrich Bonhoeffer on the inward/outward blog.

Never thought of folks running from themselves and using the community of believers as an escape route. That's a different idea to me.

I have always believed that the number 1 reason young people find themselves hanging out in gangs or tough crowds and staying there (even when they realize that it may not be best for their life) is the fear of being alone. When is the hardest time for students that have moved to a new school? Lunch. No one to sit with. In class they are with others because they have to be, but at lunch? They are all by themselves. They become vulnerable when they are alone. It is the same reason many find themselves in abusive situations and won't leave... fear of being alone. Better to be in a crappy relationship then no relationship at all and alone.

Somehow we need to become comfortable with just ourselves. Really with ourselves and God.

"I will be with you always, even until the end of the world." Mt. 28:20b

You are so right Squirt - the one things we all fear is being alone - it is what I found after the divorce and I couldn't seem to find contentment - no matter what I did - then I learned to be content with myself and you know what - everything started turning around.

Thanks for the great input - as always - you make me think!

Love ya!
